Hotaru Tomoe / Sailor Saturn (anime)

Hotaru Tomoe (土萠 ほたる, Tomoe Hotaru) is the civilian identity present-day incarnation of Sailor Saturn (セーラーサターン, Seeraa Sataan).

Sailor saturn transformation Although never shown in the 90's anime , an animation was made for it and used in select video games that were never released outside of Japan. In the video game transformation, the outfit change was never shown. Saturn's planetary symbol spun several times, then Hotaru thrust her hand into the air, silver stars alighted on her fingernails turning them white very similar to Moon Prism Power, Make Up. In an instant, Sailor Saturn was fully transformed, sweeping down into her finishing pose, holding her Silence Glaive with the Saturn symbol behind her. In Act 37 Infinity 11 Infinite - Judgement - , Sailor Saturn emerges from Pharaoh 90 and the remains of Mistress 9 already wearing her sailor-fuku following the resonance of the Talisman.

She is a close friend of Chibiusa and the last of the Outer Sailor Guardians to awaken in the 90's anime.

Etymology[]

Hotaru: The kanji of "Hotaru" (蛍) means "firefly." Fireflies are associated with the spirits of the dead in Japanese mythology.

Tomoe: The kanji of "Tomoe" (土萠) translates as earth (to,土) and sprouting (moe, 萠).

The first kanji in "Tomoe", 土 , is also the first character for the Japanese name for Saturn: "Dosei" (土星) .

So, her name means "firefly sprouting from Earth".

Sailor saturn transformation video She uses it in the manga , crystal , and the musicals. Hotaru uses this transformation phrase with her Saturn Crystal. It is the only transformation phrase Sailor Saturn uses. It initially allows her to transform into her Super form for the first time and later it allows her to take her Eternal form after she powers up Sailor Moon's Holy Moon Chalice using the power of Titan Castle. She raised her hand, shouted the phrase and transformed instantly into Super Sailor Saturn.

Hotaru mainly appears to have a black shoulder-length bob with purple shine on front and purple eyes. In her initial appearance, she was usually seen in her casual attire or sometimes wore a winter jacket, while in Mistress 9's control.

Like both Haruka and Michiru, who disguised themselves as students in Mugen Academy, Hotaru wears the standard Mugen Academy winter school uniform, as she wears blue pantyhose and black flats.

Sailor Saturn[]

As Sailor Saturn, she retains her civilian appearance, but also wears a gold tiara on her forehead with a white gem on front.

Sailor saturn transformation wand She is the tenth and last of the Sailor Guardians of the long gone Moon Kingdom to be introduced, possessing immensely strong dark powers associated with silence and ruin, nothingness and the void , destruction and death , annihilation and rebirth. Her powers made her a potential threat as she can wipe out a planet and even an entire Star System or reset its evolution. Her deathly powers are necessary for rejuvenation and re-creation to complement Sailor Moon's mighty powers of healing and rejuvenation with powerful moonlight from the Silver Crystal. Prior to the main events of Sailor Moon , when Hotaru was eight years old, she lived with her parents in Tokyo's Sankakusu District when a freak storm occurred causing a fire that killed her mother Keiko and left her on the verge of death herself. Later admitting that she was meant to die at the time, Hotaru's life was unnaturally prolonged by both the actions of her father Souichi Tomoe turning her into a cyborg and being made a host to the Daimon Mistress 9 whose presence caused Hotaru's body to suffer seizures with only the Tairon Crystal appearing to reduce the pain, only seen in Sailor Moon Crystal 's thirteen-episode third season.

Like the other Outer Sailor Senshi, her dominant color is purple (sailor uniform, choker, linings of her gloves and skirt) as the sleeves of her leotard resemble flower petals, and wears matching purple knee-length heeled boots with white laces. Her front and back bow is either dark brown in her anime official art or black at the near end of the anime's 3rd season both her silver star brooch and the star gem on front of her choker resemble the pure heart crystals being recently hunted by the Death Busters and wore a matching silver planetary dangling earrings on both of her ears as her main earrings closely resemble the planet Saturn.

She also wields the Silence Glaive while in this form.
